Former Deputy CM of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi passed away. Sushil Modi was one of the senior BJP leaders of Bihar. He was 72 years old and was suffering from cancer. Current Deputy CM of Bihar, Samrat Chaudhary posted on X and informed about his demise and also expressed his grief. He wrote, 'Heartfelt tribute to former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and former Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sushil Kumar Modi on his demise. This is an irreparable loss for Bihar BJP.
He himself informed about having cancer
Let us tell you that Sushil Modi was suffering from cancer for the last six months. He had informed about himself having cancer in one of his X-posts on April 3. Information about his demise was given by the current Deputy CM of Bihar, Samrat Chaudhary. Sushil Kumar Modi was born on 5 January 1952 in Patna, the capital of Bihar. His father's name was Moti Lal Modi and mother's name was Ratna Devi. His wife Jessie Sushil Modi is from Christian religion and is a professor. He has two sons, one named Utkarsh Tathagata and the other named Akshay Amrutankshu.
MLA elected for the first time in 1990
Sushil Kumar Modi did his graduation in Botany from Patna Science College. He was first elected MLA to Bihar Assembly in 1990. After this, he was elected MLA in 1995 and 2000 also. He was MLA for three consecutive terms.
Three decade long political career
Sushil Kumar Modi has had a three decade long political career. During this period, he was also an MLA, MLC, Lok Sabha MP and Rajya Sabha MP. Held the post of Finance Minister in Bihar Government. He was Deputy CM of Bihar twice. He held the post of Deputy CM for the first time from 2005 to 2013 and for the second time from 2017 to 2020.
Started from student politics, elected MLA in 1990
Sushil Modi has been among those leaders who have come from student politics to mainstream politics. Patna University became the land of his student politics. In 1973, he was elected General Secretary of the Students Union. In 1990, he was elected MLA for the first time from Patna Central Assembly constituency. After this, he was also elected MLA in 1995 and then he was made the Chief Whip of BJP. After this, he was elected MLA for the third consecutive time in 2000. Sushil Kumar Modi was also the leader of opposition in Bihar Assembly from 1996 to 2004.
PM Modi expressed grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the demise of Sushil Modi and paid tribute. Remembering him, the PM wrote on X, 'Extremely saddened by the untimely demise of Sushil Modi ji, my valued colleague in the party and my friend for decades. His invaluable contribution has been behind the rise of BJP and its successes in Bihar. Strongly opposing the Emergency, he made a distinct identity for himself in student politics. He was known as a very hardworking and friendly MLA. His understanding of subjects related to politics was very deep. He also did a lot of commendable work as an administrator.
